Me gusta Mexico!

I'm back from Mexico. Oaxaca City, Mexico to be exact. My hair album can't be updated because they are changing servers so I'll have to post all my pics here. I did take hair pics in Oaxaca, of course!

Actually that pic is from Mexico City. Due to a plane malfunction, I had to stay overnight in Mexico City instead of going straight to Oaxaca City. I recommend the Holiday Inn near the airport if you are staying in Mexico City.

Me in Oaxaca. Hostel Don Nino to be exact. I had a private room with my own bathroom and TV. They also have shared rooms that are much cheaper. Either way, it is very nice for a hostel. It is more like a hotel. I couldn't get an affordable hotel on such short notice. I guess I need to plan at least a year in advance. I just sort of went on a whim. My life story.

It was the best trip I ever took. I can't wait to go back. I never thought I would love a non beach trip more than NYC. But Oaxaca beats NYC. I still love New York........

I haven't posted that many pics of my hair untwisted:

I can't update my hair photo album from this computer. (long story). So I'm just posting the pics here. I just tear my twists apart. I don't have the patience to do it the right way so that is why it looks the way it does.

I'm going to wash and condition it tomorrow. Then I will probably just braid it and use protective styles until December or so. I just want it to grow about 2-3 inches or so. My hair usually grows fast.

I'm thinking about taking swimming lessons in October. That should be interesting. I'm not sure how I will wear my hair. I was planning on getting braids but I don't know anything about braids and swimming. I'll figure it out. I might end up not getting my hair braided.

Wow, what a trip. heh. I uploaded a bunch of new hair pics from the beach. My hair was drenched with rain before I went on this trip and during the trip. So my hair isn't looking like I just twisted it.

finally!

I finally have the cord that goes with my camera! I am getting ready to put my house on the market. Today I was cleaning and it was one of the first things I found. I don't have a lot of photos because knowing that I would not post the pics, caused me to lack motivation to take pictures. Year 7 of dreadlocks starts in about 17 days. WOW!! I will take more pics now that I can upload them. To see the new pics go here. Since these pics are old, I will probably be adding more in about 2-3 days. I am wishing everyone peace for 2012. I updated my year 6 photo album - for real this time! I keep forgetting. And recently my hair has been so boring. I will have some beach pics soon & I will try to mix it up.

The Carol's Daughter Loc Butter DID NOT work on my hair. My hair is curly/wavy so using stuff that soft - ugh! It turned my new growth into this soft mess. I will continue to use it on the adult part of my locks.

must have shampoo

I'm so glad March madness is here! It is my favorite time of year.

I haven't posted pics because I lost my camera cable. These pics are from February. I will update my photo album (year 6) with a couple more pics one day this week. These pics were taken after I washed my hair with no shampoo. I'd left my shampoo at home. All I had was Avon's Frizz-free conditioner. (I can't remember the name. It is mentioned in a post below). It's probably silly to say I think it had a good effect...but I think my hair was less frizzy right after I washed it. I'm going to try it again.



I will never wash my hair with no shampoo again! It did not get my dreads clean. I wash my hair with only water for 15+ minutes. Never again.



What did I say about not having frizz? LOL.

I'm going to wash my hair this Sunday. I don't know if I'm going to do maintenance. I definitely need it.

My hair needs washing bad but I have so much to do and it's getting cold so my hair will take forever to dry. blah. blah. I will learn how to style my dreads somehow.

I'm going to the beach this weekend. So far the weather looks great. I was worried about visiting the Atlantic ocean during hurricane season. I hope to have more pics from that getaway....

back to life

I know I need to update my hair blog. I may do that tonight since I just got back from a John Mayer concert and I'm on a high. Yes I know what he said. I know everything he has said for the past 9 years. Anyhow, what a show. What a guy. I had 8th row seats. We totally had eye sex. I'm not going to lie. :) No it wasn't really sex but to make eye contact with him. sigh. And he's so damn funny.

I could go on but I will not. I traveled two hours to get to this concert. (I'm over traveling to concerts, btw. It's just not as fun as a local concert). I left my clothes at home so I had to go to the nearest store which was Burlington Court Factory. UGH! Their clothes department is horrid. It might just be this one. I've never been to the one in my hometown.

I spent an hour in the store to put together this outfit:



The eighties called and they want their outfit back. Yeah, I know. You should see the leggings with their Michael Jackson esque beading. haha. In my defense I only had an hour and not much to chose from. Actually I do like that t-shirt. It was the only one hanging there. Calling my name...

I may or may not update my hair album. I can't believe I have to work tomorrow. For four hours. I'll update it one day this week.

NYC photos

I went to New York a couple of weeks ago. I didn't take a lot of hair pics. But I do have some pics I will load into my hair album later. I've been meaning to create a travel album there but I'm so busy/overwhelmed with crap right now.

For now here are some random pictures I took in NYC...including some of Wyclef Jean! I saw him on the last day in K-Mart. Of course I took my camera out! :)

Year 5

My loc-aversary isn't until Jan 16 but I'm 'celebrating' now. Year 5! I started a new hair photo album @ webshots. Uploaded a bunch of pics.



I went to the salon 3 days ago to get full maintenance. I'm going to try to go at least 6 times in 2010. It isn't cheap because I 'have so much hair'. (<-- heard that my whole life - lol & that is one reason I stopped going to salons). Anyhow I had an awesome NYE and New Year's Day.

...except for a trip to Bebe. I have the need to warn everyone about going there. They would not take 'just looking' for an answer. I even got 5 items pulled for me. (ummm, thanks??) I caved under pressure and spent way too much. Oh well, I did post a pic of the Bebe dress (and other new stuff) in my thrift section (lol) b/c I won't be going to a thrift store or any clothing store anytime soon.

I play in the sun...w/spf 20 clear foundation.

I've read a few books on the color complex. Don't Play in the Sun by Marita Golden is the one I can relate to best. It is well written. And she went to Brazil and other countries. She painted a good picture of how blacks live there and in Cuba. The color complex is something 95% of people like to deny. It seems like dark skinned people are more likely to talk about it. It bothers me when people deny it exists. IT'S A LIE!!!! Saying the color complex doesn't exist is more offensive than saying racism doesn't exist...to me. Probably because the color complex negatively affected me more.

The way people stereotype me these days amuse me. You have to laugh. They think: afrocentric, dumb, poor, racist against whites, etc. Then when they get to know me I'm a WHITE GIRL...sometimes. I'm American. I was born here. Is that white???????

I haven't washed my hair in a month. lol. I go to the salon in 3+ weeks. I may get free maintenance next week if work isn't too busy next week. Otherwise I'm going to give myself a shampoo free mini soak. I should do that anyway...........

My hair stinks! Ugh. But at least whatever the salon uses is invisible. I have spritzed my hair with water. I will definitely be washing my hair this weekend. I hope this doesn't happen next time. Yes there will be a next time in 3 weeks. I don't want to spend $$ on my hair but I uh, ::sigh::.
